Found something? Stay calm. Here’s what to do.
Clear steps for a camera or a tracker, a message you can send right away, and the emergency number where you are.
If you found a camera
- Don’t touch or remove it
It is evidence. Taking it apart can destroy what the police need.
- Take photos
Photograph the device and where it is, close up and from across the room.
- Cover it
A towel, tape or a piece of clothing. Now it sees nothing.
- Leave if you don’t feel safe
Go to the reception, the lobby or anywhere with people around.
- Report it
Tell the hotel, the host or the booking platform, and the police.
If you found a tracker
- Photograph it and note the details
Write down the serial number and where you found it.
- Go somewhere busy and safe
Not straight home: whoever placed it may know where you live.
- Contact the police
Especially if you feel followed or threatened.
- Stop it sharing your location
When you’re ready, remove the battery.
