Check your hotel room for hidden cameras in 5 minutes
Before you unpack, sweep the room with your phone. Hidden Eye walks you through every spot, one step at a time.
Before you start
Hidden cameras today are tiny, cheap and built into things every room has: smoke detectors, USB chargers, alarm clocks and TV boxes. They are usually placed where they can see the bed, the shower or the spot where you change.
You don’t need a gadget to find them. Your phone’s flash catches the reflection of a lens, its camera sees infrared lights your eyes can’t, its compass senses electronics inside objects, and its Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth reveal devices that are streaming. Hidden Eye puts all of that into one guided scan.
In 2019 about 1,600 guests were secretly livestreamed from 42 motel rooms in South Korea, through cameras hidden in TV boxes, sockets and hair dryer holders. Source: ABC15
Where cameras hide
-
Smoke detectors
Ceiling-mounted with a clear view of the whole room. Look for a small dark hole or a lens that doesn’t belong.
-
USB chargers and power adapters
The most common spy camera on sale. A charger you didn’t bring, plugged in facing the bed, deserves a close look.
-
Alarm clocks and radios
Bedside, angled at the bed, always powered. Check the front panel with the flash.
-
TV, set-top box and router
Lots of small lights and holes to hide a lens among. Look at the front and sides.
-
Mirrors
A two-way mirror can hide a camera behind the glass, especially in bathrooms. Do the fingertip test.
-
Air vents and air conditioning
Slats hide a lens well. Shine your flash through them.
-
Lamps, pictures, plants and decor
Anything that faces the bed or shower and has a spot where a lens could sit.
-
Smart speakers and power outlets
Always powered and rarely questioned. Check for lenses and unexpected lights.
How to check, step by step
6 steps in the app · About 5 minutes
- 1
Look around with the lights on
Walk the room and note everything that faces the bed, the shower or the toilet. The app’s checklist covers each spot.
- 2
Sweep with the Lens Finder
The flash blinks while you move the phone slowly around the room. A lens reflects the light straight back, and Hidden Eye circles it in red.
- 3
Turn the lights off
Many cameras use infrared lights to see in the dark. Your phone’s camera picks them up as small glowing dots. Give the room 20 seconds.
- 4
Scan Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth
Device Scan lists what is connected around you and labels anything that looks like a camera or streams video.
- 5
Take one photo for the AI Scan
AI marks every spot worth checking in the room and tells you what points at the bed or shower.
- 6
Check suspicious objects up close
Hold your phone against a clock, charger or detector. The Electronics Finder senses circuits hidden inside.
What Hidden Eye does for you
The app picks the right checks for this place, tells you where to hold your phone and what each result means.
Lens Finder Free
The flash blinks; any tiny spot that blinks back is a lens, and the app circles it.
Lights-Off Test Free
Some cameras glow in the dark. Your phone’s camera catches what your eyes miss.
Device Scan Pro
Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth devices around you; cameras and trackers get a red label.
AI Scan Pro
One photo; AI marks spots worth checking and what points at the bed or shower.
Electronics Finder Pro
Hold your phone close to an object; it senses electronics hidden inside.
Mirror Test Free
A fingertip test that tells a normal mirror from a two-way one.
Good to know
- Do the scan as soon as you arrive, before you unpack or shower.
- Unplug chargers and clocks you didn’t bring if they face the bed. Nobody needs them pointed at you.
- Turn on Night Watch before you sleep: lean your phone against the door and it notes if the door opens or a new device appears.
- Your report is saved with a safety score. Name it after the hotel and room so you can find it later.

What to do nowQuestions
Can my phone really find a hidden camera?
Yes. Camera lenses reflect light back to its source, which the Lens Finder catches with your flash. Night-vision cameras give off infrared light your phone’s camera sees. Wi‑Fi cameras show up on the network. Hidden Eye combines all of these in one scan.
Do I need to connect to the hotel Wi‑Fi?
To see the devices on the hotel network, yes. Device Scan lists everything on the network you’re connected to and labels cameras and video streams. Bluetooth devices show up either way.
How long does it take?
About five minutes for the full room scan. The free checks come first, so you can start right away.
