Find out if an AirTag or tracker is following you
Walk for 15 minutes. Hidden Eye flags any device that keeps moving with you, on iPhone and Android.
Before you start
Bluetooth trackers like AirTag, Tile, SmartTag and Chipolo cost little, run for a year on a coin battery and fit in a bag lining, a coat pocket or under a car seat. They are made to find keys, and they are just as good at following a person.
Hidden Eye’s Tracker Check finds the devices that stay with you while you move. Phones, earbuds and watches change their address every 15 minutes or so; a tracker separated from its owner keeps the same one for hours. That difference gives it away.
A 2025 study found unwanted-tracker alerts are much less reliable and slower on Android than on iPhone, and many people ignored the warning. Source: USENIX Security
Where trackers hide
-
Bag linings and inner pockets
A tracker slipped into a lining or a zipped pocket can go unnoticed for weeks.
-
Coats and jackets
Hoods, inner pockets and the gap behind a seam.
-
Gifts and new items
A keyring, a soft toy or a phone case you were given.
-
Your car
Under the seats, in the trunk, in the wheel arches and the OBD port.
-
Luggage
Outer pockets and the space under the lining of a suitcase.
-
Bikes and scooters
Under the saddle, inside the frame or behind a light.
How to check, step by step
4 steps in the app · 15 minutes on the move
- 1
Start the Tracker Check
Open Hidden Eye and choose “On me or in my bag”.
- 2
Move for at least 15 minutes
Walk, take the bus or drive. The app uses the motion sensor to know you’re moving, so devices on the next café table don’t count.
- 3
See what moved with you
Devices that stayed with you get flagged as “Possible tracker” or “Moving with you”, with how long they’ve been with you.
- 4
Find it
Use Device Scan’s signal finder: the beep speeds up as you get closer. Mark your own devices as yours.
What Hidden Eye does for you
The app picks the right checks for this place, tells you where to hold your phone and what each result means.
Tracker Check Pro
Walk for 15 minutes; devices that keep moving with you get flagged. Your location is never used.
Device Scan Pro
Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth devices around you; cameras and trackers get a red label.
Good to know
- Movement comes from your phone’s motion sensor, not from your location.
- It keeps running in the background and sends you a notification when a tracker moves with you.
- On iPhone, an AirTag that travels with you also triggers Apple’s own alert. Hidden Eye covers the other brands too.
- Found one? Photograph it and note the serial number before you do anything else.
Found something?
Don’t touch it. Photograph it, cover it, and report it. Our step-by-step guide has a ready message and your local emergency number.
What to do nowQuestions
Does the Tracker Check use my location?
No. It knows you’re moving from your phone’s motion sensor and compares the Bluetooth devices around you over time.
Which trackers does it find?
Bluetooth trackers such as AirTag, Tile, Samsung SmartTag and Chipolo, and other devices that keep moving with you.
What should I do if I find a tracker?
Photograph it and write down its serial number. Go to a busy, safe place rather than straight home, and contact the police if you feel unsafe. Removing the battery stops it from sharing its location.
