Check a rental, taxi or used car in 3 minutes
Cameras behind the mirror, trackers under the seat. Know the spots and let your phone do the rest.
Before you start
Cars are full of hiding places: an OBD port that powers a tracker, seat rails a magnet sticks to, a rear-view mirror with a perfect view of the cabin. Rental cars and used cars change hands often, and you rarely know who had them before you.
Hidden Eye’s car check combines a lens sweep, a list of the spots where trackers usually hide, and a scan of the Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi devices around you.

Where cameras and trackers hide
-
OBD port
Under the dashboard on the driver’s side. Plug-in trackers draw power from it and can stay hidden for years.
-
Under the seats
Magnetic trackers stick to seat rails and frames. Feel underneath and look with your flash.
-
Glovebox and door pockets
Easy places to leave a small tracker or a recording device.
-
Rear-view mirror and headliner
A view of everyone in the car. Dash cams belong here; hidden ones don’t.
-
USB and cigarette lighter sockets
Adapters with a built-in camera or tracker look like ordinary chargers.
-
Bumpers and wheel arches
Outside, magnetic GPS trackers go where nobody looks.
-
Trunk and spare‑wheel well
Space, darkness and sometimes power: a common spot for trackers.
How to check, step by step
4 steps in the app · About 3 minutes
- 1
Sweep the cabin with the Lens Finder
Mirror, headliner, dashboard and vents. Lenses blink back at your flash.
- 2
Go through the tracker spots
The app’s checklist takes you through the OBD port, the seats, the pockets, the sockets and the outside, with a tip for each.
- 3
Scan Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi
Device Scan lists nearby devices. Names that match spy cameras or trackers like AirTag, Tile, SmartTag and Chipolo get a red label.
- 4
Follow a signal
Tap a suspicious device and walk around the car. The beep speeds up as you get closer.
What Hidden Eye does for you
The app picks the right checks for this place, tells you where to hold your phone and what each result means.
Lens Finder Free
The flash blinks; any tiny spot that blinks back is a lens, and the app circles it.
Device Scan Pro
Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth devices around you; cameras and trackers get a red label.
Electronics Finder Pro
Hold your phone close to an object; it senses electronics hidden inside.
Tracker Check Pro
Walk for 15 minutes; devices that keep moving with you get flagged. Your location is never used.
Good to know
- Check a rental before you drive off, so you can swap cars at the desk.
- For a tracker that only wakes up when the car moves, run the Tracker Check on your next drive.
- Mark your own phone, watch and earbuds as safe in Device Scan.

What to do nowQuestions
Where are GPS trackers usually hidden in a car?
In the OBD port under the dashboard, under the seats, in the trunk and spare‑wheel well, and outside in the wheel arches and bumpers, held on by magnets.
Can Hidden Eye find a tracker that is switched off?
A switched-off device sends nothing, so check the spots by hand with the app’s checklist. Most trackers send signals regularly, and Device Scan and the Tracker Check catch them.
Is a dash cam a hidden camera?
A visible dash cam is normal in many cars. A camera hidden in the mirror, a charger or the headliner is not.
